The Effect of Basic Psychological Needs, Quality of Life on College Living Satisfaction of First Grade Nursing Students in a College

Abstract

|
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to study the effects of basic psychological needs and quality of life on college living satisfaction of nursing students.
Methods: Participants were 164 nursing students in the first grade of nursing department in one college. Basic psychological needs, quality of life, and satisfaction with college life was measured using self-reported questionnaire. Data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson¡¯s correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression.
Results: Male students, students who had willingness to voluntary drop-out, relatedness needs score of basic psychological needs, and environmental quality of life score were the influencing factors on the college living satisfaction.
Conclusions: College living satisfaction is an important factor in nursing student¡¯s successful college life and nursing professionalism formation. Programs are needed to help meet basic psychological needs and quality of life for freshman of nursing department.
